Continuous Provision

At Highwoods Primary School, our Year 1 continuous provision, known as ‘Choosing Our Learning’, provides children with purposeful, play-based opportunities to explore, discover and embed their learning. Building on the foundations established through the EYFS, our provision links directly to National Curriculum objectives, with enhanced activities carefully planned around taught content and children’s individual learning needs.

Through a balance of self-directed exploration, carefully considered adult support and aspirational learning experiences, children are encouraged to develop independence, curiosity and a love of learning. Our provision is adapted to support areas requiring further development, ensuring that all children are challenged, supported and enabled to achieve the high outcomes we strive for at Highwoods.

Learning takes place across our indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, providing opportunities to develop knowledge and skills while nurturing the whole child. Alongside embedding curriculum learning, children develop essential social and emotional skills, including turn-taking, negotiation, resilience, problem-solving and collaboration.

Our continuous provision reflects our belief in high ambitions for every child, creating an inclusive and engaging environment where all children can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
