My Future
My Future is a project launched for Essex primary schools that aims to broaden horizons, challenge stereotypes and raise aspirations.
We are very excited to have joined the programme this year and give our children the opportunity to meet a number of employees from a range of work sectors.
As part of the project, pupils will take part in engaging virtual sessions with career professionals. These sessions are carefully tailored for different age groups—Years 1, 2 and 3 and Years 4, 5 and 6—ensuring the content is age-appropriate. Children will join half-termly Zoom meetings where they meet career professionals. They will hear about the volunteers’ jobs and work experiences and will have the opportunity to ask questions.
During each session, the focus is on developing one key essential skill linked to the featured industry. Volunteers highlight this skill during their job “reveal,” helping children understand the importance of transferable skills in the world of work.
Did you know?
Research shows that the difference between children’s career aspirations from the age of 7 to 17 is minimal. These aspirations are often influenced by gender stereotypes, socio-economic background and media such as television, film and radio. We believe it is essential that children are exposed early to the wide range of opportunities available to them, so they can imagine ambitious and inclusive futures for themselves.
We are confident that this project will be an inspiring and valuable experience for our pupils, encouraging curiosity, confidence, and positive aspirations for the future.
