Music at Highwoods

At Highwoods, we aim for all children to develop a love of music.  Our four values of inspiration, aspiration, accessibility and resilience permeate through our music lessons.  All children follow the Charanga Music curriculum where they learn to listen to and appraise different musical genres as well as how to improvise, compose and perform. They will learn how to play the glockenspiel and recorder and other percussion instrument. Children also have an option to take part in small group tuition for the guitar, ukulele, keyboard, violin and drums run by peripatetic teachers.  In addition to this, we offer singing tuition for children who have a passion for this, delivered by a voice coach.

Choir

We have a very popular choir and this year's Christmas event is Peter and the Wolf, in association with Essex Music Services.  Every year, the whole school also visits the pantomine- 430 children attend the show- singing and joining in with the performance. It has become a Highwoods tradition and a wonderful opportunity for our children to be immersed in cultural capital.
