At Highwoods, we aim for all children to develop a love of music.  Our four values of inspiration, aspiration, accessibility and resilience permeate through our music lessons.  All children follow the Charanga Music curriculum where they learn to listen to and appraise different musical genres as well as how to improvise, compose and perform. They will learn how to play the glockenspiel and recorder and other percussion instrument. Children also have an option to take part in small group tuition in the guitar, ukulele, keyboard, violin and drums run by peripatetic teachers.  In addition to this, we will be offering singing tuition for some children from the Summer term 2024.

We have a very popular choir and this year's Christmas event is Peter and the Wolf, in association with Essex Music Services.
