Welcome to our Year 3 Pupil Page!
Hello, welcome to the year three page of our website. Year three is a fantastic year at Highwoods. It’s our first year in KS2 and there are some changes to the school day. We are lucky enough to do forest school this year and we do some amazing learning. Our teachers are Miss Jones and Mrs Tolhurst. We also have Mrs Hooker, Ms White, Miss Witney and Ms Bromley to help us in our learning, as well as lots of other adults in school. Check back regularly to see what we get up to as the year goes by…
Please click at the bottom of the page for the Knowledge Organisers.
Maths (TTRS) and Spelling homework is set every Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday
We will set the first homework on Friday 16th September but will make sure your children understand it fully on Tuesday 20th September.
All of our homework is online. You will need to use the following websites to complete your homework:
Timestable Rockstars: https://ttrockstars.com
This is the same account as the children were using during year two. It’s easiest to use via the app.
Spelling Frame: https://spellingframe.co.uk
The children’s spelling homework is now on this site. There is a selection of words every week selected specifically for them.
They can select their spellings by logging onto the site, then choosing to practice or test. They must complete one test per week as their homework but can do more if they’d like or play the games.
This starts during summer term. The site and has some fun quizzes for the children, these quizzes will be set for what is being learnt in class.
Parents, thank you for your continued support with reading at home. Remember, 3 adult signed entries in the children’s reading records entitle your child to being a ‘Star Reader’ for the week.
Reading regularly with your child is so important, as it not only improves your child’s reading fluency but it builds their vocabulary, aids their creativity when writing, improves their spelling and develops their general knowledge. Most of all, it is an enjoyable way to spend quality time with your child at the end of a busy day.
Each week we choose two children from the class to do a ‘Book Flash’ This is an opportunity for your child to talk about a book that they love reading. Any genre is fine and any format. This is a chance for the children to share a love of reading and shouldn’t be arduous.
Children must attend school wearing their kit on PE days. Please send your child in weather appropriate clothing.
Outside PE is on a Friday afternoon – Children will need a jumper, t-shirt, jogging bottoms, socks and trainers.
Inside PE is Thursday this half term.
Please remember that hair must be tied back and earrings removed for PE.
In Year 3, we have an amazing opportunity to take part in Forest Schools. This is a great chance to learn new skills and interact with each other outside of the classroom.
Each group will spend a block of five weeks attending Forest Schools, before changing to allow other children to attend.
Our Forest School afternoon will be Wednesday for those children who are selected.
Snack and Water
Children need to bring their own healthy snack to school. Please ensure that this is separate from their packed lunch as packed lunches are stored in the hall for the majority of the day.
Children should also have a separate water bottle for their packed lunch and the classroom for the same reason.
Trips During Year Three
We love enriching our curriculum through trips over the course of the year.
The approximate details of the trips this year were sent out by ping in July, after moving up day.
We also have several virtual visits to take part in this year.
We also go on local trips and visits to the local area (such as Highwoods) as the year progresses.
Please email us with any queries at any point. We are always happy to talk to parents on the door but have very limited time. We check our emails frequently, throughout the day and evening and so this really is the most efficient way to get in touch with us. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
